You know why there are no honest people in politics? Because honest people have no political ambitions. That leaves the voters (or the stay-at-home folks) with the scum and after a while they become the norm.
The honest people need to finally get off their heels and get their act together. Otherwise the story will soon be over.
Meritocracy, pragmatism, honesty...
You can always build on these.
There are some who are honest and step into politics, but politics usually makes sure they don't get very far. In the vast majority of cases they give up after a while. They are simply marginalized, made powerless, shunned.
On the other hand, here is a very good example of an honest politician: José Mujica, who made it to the presidency. If all politicians were like him, we would live in a wonderful world. Unfortunately, he has not been able to achieve any breakthroughs either, and certainly not in world politics. We need many like him and at the same time.
One swallow does not make a summer.
